WELCOME TO PACIFIC BACKLOT

PRODUCTION SERVICES FOR LARGE AND SMALL CREWS

When we think back on our story, we realize that talking to our customers was where it all started. Pacific Backlot Services was established in 1999 as a production services company to support the great people who frequented Vancouver Film Studios, and through the years it has grown considerably. Today, Pacific Backlot Services continues to operate from our fully-secured warehouse located on the Vancouver Film Studios lot, but the Pacific Backlot Services customer base now extends to productions shooting throughout Western Canada. We offer an extensive list of top-notch production services and equipment rentals to everyone from feature films and photographers to gaming and students at local BC colleges. Large or small our crew takes great pride in providing the best service and equipment possible. Accessibility and approachability have remained our goals from day one, hoping to share our passion for providing the best in behind-the-scenes essentials that support the industry with every customer we come across. Pacific Backlot Services is an excellent one-stop shop for location equipment rentals in the Lower Mainland and on the Sea to Sky Corridor. We are proud to be owned and managed by The McLean Group of companies.

SERVICES

We get it – you need it and you needed it yesterday. We understand that the creative objectives of our customers are tied to demanding, and sometimes urgent, deadlines. That’s why you came to us! We personally assure that every member of our crew understands this and are here to help you meet those deadlines. Making a difference in your production services experience is as important to us as how we treat the environment, which is why Pacific Backlot Services is a carbon neutral company. We are committed to continued investment in green lighting technology, and recycling outdated technology responsibly. Whether you are looking for a grip stand, a fresnel light or a lift, you’ll find it here. Our philosophy for the company from the start was simple: buy the best, hire the best, and above all else, keep pace with the changing needs of the industry.

Pacific Backlot Services has provided me with an excellent level of Support and Customer Service for various Long Term projects for over a Decade. They have been able to meet and exceed the rigorous demands of Network Television Production and its various requirements.  The quality of equipment, their positive attitudes, flexibility and excellent Staff ensure that Pacific Backlot Services is an asset to any Production in the Lower Mainland.

Oliver Hajdu (Rigging gaffer for Arrow)

I have been going to Backlot since I first started in the industry four years ago.  No matter what size project, big or small.  Whether it be a large scale feature film or a small music video, Backlot and their staff are always able to make it work for your budget.  Their equipment is well maintained and industry approved and their staff and client service is the best in town.  I will always visit Pacific Backlot for my grip and electric needs.

FAQ

We know you’re busy and you probably won’t read this, but we put it here anyways because we’re suckers. Give us a call though and ask us these exact questions – truthfully we like chatting on the job and you can say you were “just testing us” ‘cause LOL #amirght?

First time customers are asked to fill out our standard terms and conditions, credit card authorization and production info forms

All orders with a replacement cost of over $5,000.00 will need to have insurance. If the replacement cost is less than the 5K limit, we would accept a pre-authorization from your credit card. First time or one off customers will also need to pay for the rental before the equipment leaves the warehouse.

The quickest and easiest way to get insurance is with Front Row Insurance or Gear Policy. Your insurance should be not less than the replacement cost of the gear we quoted you. It is always recommended to add another 10 to 20% above replacement cost as orders tend to change before final load out and those changes may bring replacement cost up. Your insurance should be made out to Pacific Backlot Services Ltd. 3500 Cornett Road, Vancouver B.C, V5M 2H5 and the insured should be a legal name or entity. Coverage for gear should be under misc. rented equipment and if you are renting a vehicle it should also include vehicle aggregate coverage of $250K.

Yes! PBS rents vehicles from 5-ton box trucks to panel vans. Your requirements would include a valid drivers license and a signed vehicle rental agreement. PBS also offers secure 24/7 accessible parking for all our rented vehicles. We only rent trucks to customers renting out our gear; we do not rent trucks on their own.

The best way to get a quote is to email your list of gear requirements to rentals@pacificbacklot.com and make sure to also include production company (if applicable), show name, pick-up date, shoot dates and drop off date. You can also give us a shout at 604.453.5070.

Nope, here at PBS we are hiking, Netflix-ing, or squeezing limes for our mojitos! We are only open Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm. If you’re shooting only on the weekend, gear must be picked up on Friday and returned on Monday. Note, if you are picking up on a Friday we recommend you give yourself enough time to load out gear. If you are here loading out and not finished by 5pm you can be subject to an extra charge. PBS is also closed on all Canadian stat holidays.

No, our boss knows we would spend all out time playing with them instead of working therefore our inventory consists of lighting, grip, locations and lift equipment.

You bet we do! However, we are only able to offer this to productions on the VFS lot that are using our lifts.

Let go of one of our babies!? We couldn’t! However, we wish you the best if you're looking to start a family of your own.

What type of payments do we not accept? In all seriousness though, we accept debit, cash or credit. No to interact transfer!

#socialmedia #FTW If we have supported your show in any shape or form, please send all production info to our social media coordinator; Bryan Burles info@pacificbacklotservices.com We will post the "show" out of your show or you can #wegotyourback. Better yet, send us pictures of our gear in action!

Arrow has worked with PBS for the last 5 years.  In this time, PBS has provided for all of our grip and electric equipment needs without hesitation.  They are managed and staffed by an outstanding group of individuals who emphasize customer service and it shows in every way.  We look forward to working with them for many more seasons to come.

Michael Potkins (Production Manager “Arrow”)

When I am booking grip and lighting my first choice is Pacific Backlot. They have always been happy to help me get a great and affordable package together.  Pacific Backlot is  an awesome resource for independent film in Vancouver.
